Let's Get Wiggling - WiggleTime.com Launch!

TheFARM is very excited to announce the launch of WiggleTime.com, an interactive environment enabling preschool children to explore, play and learn with the use of familiar Wiggles themes, destinations and characters.

WiggleTime.com extends The Wiggles philosophy of "education through entertainment", and acts as an early childhood developmental tool for both toddlers and their parents. Each game played on WiggleTime.com contains cognitive, physical and social elements to help benefit the pre-schooler. For the parents, WiggleTime also doubles as an educational resource center to monitor a child's development and be kept up to date with the most recent parenting news.

Technically, several months of research on the flash technologies to be used preceeded the construction of the child layer of the site. This was a technically complicated endeavor prompting TheFARM to build many new code libraries as well as using open-source libraries. The entire system was built over a runtime AOP system which allows all the code to work together quickly and easily, keep an eye out as this may become open-source within the coming weeks.

The team built a fast path and bezier library to draw the 'loading goo' that children play with and a behavioural system was built to allow the characters to walk around and talk to each other.

Box2D was used for the physics of the toys that children can earn and Flint was used to animate the clouds - to be used for new effects in the world in the future. GoASAP was used for all other code based animations. For interest see below for an early round implementation of the physics engine that controls the Big Red Car.

All in all a technical challenge with impressive and rewarding results!

So jump in the Big Red Car, buckle up and start exploring!

iTunes has just released a list of its all-time top apps (www.apple.com/iphone/appstore/), so you can see what prime distractions and life saving utilities are topping the charts. Gaming dominates the paid-for apps, with Crash Bandicoot Nitro at the top of the list, followed by Moto Chaser, Virtual Pool, Cro-Mag Rally and Flick Fishing. Monopoly, Super Monkey Ball, London Tube and the old faithful Tetris also feature.

Swedish Automaker Volvo has taught the old banner ad a few new tricks thanks to a campaign masterminded by Euro RSCG Worldwide. The new multi-purpose ad not only measures a whopping 950 x 250 pixels but also contains photos, videos, an advergame and regular Twitter updates.

This week the ABC unveiled its most ambitious broadband documentary project in the lead-up to Anzac Day tomorrow, launching an interactive website that enables people to relive the first 24 hours of the Gallipoli landing. Well, well worth a look! What amazing bravery and sacrifice. Lest We Forget...abc.net.au/gallipoli

Todd Sutherland Photography

[April 2009] TheFARM launch a sophisticated and slick flash built site as an "online exhibition" of photographer Todd Sutherland's work.

A dark colour scheme and razor-clean browsing functionality allows the rich colours of Todd Sutherland's portfolio to speak for themselves.

The exposure effect applied to loading images compliments the portfolio range to deliver a visually rich user experience.

Adidas rugby targets women with a microsite allowing visitors to select two players and watch, in slow-motion if preferred, as they swap shirts. The ladies are sure to see this as a completely valid attempt to promote the sport to a female audience. The guys may well see it as an assault on the eyeballs! That’s demographics, though, isn't it? www.adidas.com/campaigns/campaigns_nz/content/index.asp

Sprint update their amazing online widget to promote the ‘Now Network’ mobile broadband service with an excellent new TV spot showing the metrics of digital communication at any one time. Knowing without patronising. Ten out of ten to Goodby. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImAD8BOBOhw

Great stats from the New York Times on a survey showing the exact amount of time we spend interacting with screens: www.nytimes.com/2009/03/27/business/media/27adco.html

Excellent use of new music service Spotify to promote BritFlick ‘The Boat That Rocked’. All the DJ characters from the film have created their own playlists, which you can search and add to your own list of favourites. Well done Jollywise Media. www.thecompetitionthatrocked.com

Broken limbs ahoy! MySpace have teamed up with The Simpsons to celebrate their 20th Anniversary by inviting viewers to send in their own 45-second versions of the opening couch sequence. Despite general user-generated competition fatigue, anything this iconic is just screaming to be messed with. What would you do??

Everyone’s favourite new music service, Spotify, is stepping up its assault on iTunes by introducing a click-to-buy option giving users access to six million tracks, through an exclusive deal with 7digital. www.spotify.com

In an early April Fools gesture, last week’s rumours of IKEA launching an eco-friendly car turn out to be a viral campaign for a car-sharing service in France.
